Mara Tremblay will be working with her son on this project

Mara Tremblay has been chosen as host of the Grand Spectacle of the Quebec National Festival in the capital. On this occasion, she brought together several artists that she considers particularly admirers, as well as her son, who will perform for the first time on the Plains of Abraham stage.

Mara Tremblay was thrilled to have the opportunity to be the host of one of the biggest shows of the year. “It's an exceptional honour, it's great for me, because I'm surrounded by friends and my son Edward. There's something very personal about this project. There are people on the scene who are very close to me. For example, Paul Driesch, with whom I was on tour for two years. But Singing with my son on the plains is beyond anything I could have ever dreamed of.

Mara Tremblay admits that she was hired because the production was looking for a strong, mature woman to be the lead of this show. “I said okay, but personally I know a lot of these women, so I brought them with me. I also decided to add my own color by adding folklore to the show, because I found that it was lacking in recent years. Finally, I have an opinion on the songs; there are Quebec songs that I wanted to share with The audience and the other artists had an unusual openness on the part of the production regarding my wishes.

Shared passion

Edouard Tremblay-Grenier is 21 years old. He started in the artistic world as an actor. He notably played Leo, Martin Matty's son for a few years in Les Beaux malaises 2.0. “I've been playing for 13 years. Recently I decided to take music more seriously. In particular, I'm currently recording an album.” Edward admits that his mother's music has really inspired him. “I'm lucky because I'm a fan of what my parents do (Edward is also the son of Comedian Daniel Grenier). His music definitely inspired me in one way or another. What I do as a musician is somewhat similar to my mother's, but with influences from Karkoa, Malagupi and Red Hot Chili Peppers, among others.

Mara Tremblay attributes her son's passion for music to the fact that he was exposed to it since he was…in the womb. “When I was pregnant, I played the guitar a lot! My last show was at Francofolies (called Francos de Montréal since 2018), and I was eight months pregnant. It's very impressive, because at 13, he was playing the guitar Like me! It's crazy the effect that music can have on a fetus and playing with it on such a large scale is, to me, almost incomprehensible, I feel so many emotions.

The first is for Edward

Despite his passion for music, Edward never had the opportunity to play on a stage as large as Les Plaines. “I was so nervous before we started rehearsals. But now I'm so prepared. I tell myself, if I make a mistake, this is a live show, I'm a human being, and I'm not the only human being in this show,” his mother adds. “We are all vulnerable.” All the artists will be moved to be there. It won't be negative stress, but excitement. Just experiencing this unique and extraordinary moment with my son, in person, takes all the stress away from me. Unlike his mother, Edward never saw the Plains of Abraham. “I actually went to the Quebec Aquarium, but I had never seen the plains before.” Mara Tremblay admits that it will be a very emotional moment for her son.

The big show Quebec's National Day in the capital will be broadcast on June 23 on Télé-Québec from 9:30 p.m.
