The Lecouvie-Déry collection was exhibited at Espace Quatre Cents and in Saint-Malo

as part of Transat Quebec Saint Malo, the Lecouvie-Déry collection will be shown at Espace Quatre Cents from June 20 to 29 and at the Maison du Québec in Saint-Malo from July 10 to 16. The Lecouvie-Déry Collection, is forty-two sculptural models of Canadian Arctic walrus and centipede ivory that recall human history over thousands of years. This collection is part of Quebec history. Ivory was brought from northern Canada in the 1920s by Captain Joseph Elzéar Bernier. World-famous artist and Quebec police officer Edmond Lecovi dedicated 20 years of his life to creating this unique collection in the world. Acquired by Stanislas Déré in 1946, it has been owned for forty years by Gaston Déré who has enabled the preservation of this national treasure that demonstrates the importance of global maritime traditions.

The “Collection to Cross Time” exhibition depicts this saga that has shaped humanity over thousands of years. A tribute to these pioneers and discoverers, these sailors who have stood the test of time. A small fleet of ivory in the Arctic shows that the sea unites people and its sailors. Gaston Déry said during the press conference held by TQSM: “I am very proud to be associated with this event “Legends of the Transatlantic” with the Lecouvie-Déry collection that visitors to Quebec are rediscovering and I am convinced that Europeans will discover with it the feelings of the ships that forged their history. Happy for all Transat Québec St-Malo team members hope that the Lecouvie-Déry group will deliver the message of TQSM, the legendary TRANSAT » (Richard Sampson)

Gaston Déré will also hold a conference every day in the series The river that speaks : Lecouvie-Déry, a collection for the passage of time Starting June 22 at 4:00pm at Espace Quatre Cents and St-Malo. During this interview, the 42 ivory models will tell in their own way the history of humanity, closely linked to the development of navigation over thousands of years.

Transat Québec St-Malo is pleased with this prestigious contribution from a Quebecois citizen who shares part of Quebec's history regarding its maritime tradition.
