$1,000 for Two Drinks: Greek Restaurant Still Doing Its Own Thing

The DK Oyster restaurant on the Greek island of Mykonos is still being talked about for all the wrong reasons. Two American vacationers reported on TripAdvisor that they received a bill of €690 (about $1,015 CAD) for just two cocktails.

In a review written against the establishment titled “Avoid at all costs,” tourists claim they were tricked into offering them beach chairs on the condition that they buy expensive good drinks.

“We ordered two drinks and later found out that each cost 51 euros. As if that wasn’t crazy enough, when we got back to the US, we noticed that a total of 876 dollars (US) had been charged to our account,” wrote the tourist, named Lori.

The couple is trying to reverse the amount, claiming they never received a receipt or signed anything.

In response to these criticisms, DK Oyster's director, Dimitrios Kalamaras, tried to defend his establishment's prices.

“Our lounge chairs come with minimal wear and tear, so we encourage our customers to check our list before placing their order,” he replied.

The latter also pointed out that the restaurant menu was displayed at the entrance with food and drink prices.

But this is not the first time the institution has been criticized for its exorbitant prices.

In addition to accumulating numerous negative reviews online, the restaurant made headlines in August 2022 after it charged another American couple $655 for four drinks and 12 oysters.
