Samsung’s next Exynos chips could democratize ray tracing in the mobile world.
Samsung had it Announced with great fanfare at Computex 2021 : The new Exynos chips will be based on AMD’s RDNA 2 architecture, and therefore will be able to offer ray tracing.
At present, this light ray working technology is dedicated to the latest generation of consoles such as PS5 and the Xbox Xbox X And S series., Beside Computer Equipped screen cards compatible.
Samsung bets on mobile ray tracing
But this may change with the following Samsung chipsets. We can see the arrival of Ray Tracing on Galaxy smartphones of the S or Z range, or on desktop computers like Galaxy Book from Samsung. It could anyway be a Seoul Corporation project.
And what better way to support a project that depends more on graphics performance than image? Samsung shared this photo on its social networks. On the left, we can see an image without ray tracing, and on the right, with ray tracing.
First note: It’s a static image. So this does not prove the capabilities of the chip used, because for this it would be necessary to see the fluidity of an animated sequence.
On the other hand, the image allows us to see the reflections of the flames on the tank, or even a slightly different management of brightness on the building in the background. We can also see a burning car in the lower right, which is absent from the scene without ray tracing.
Ray tracing tends to get all the coverage on it when it comes to graphics capabilities. But the upcoming Exynos SoC will also be able to variably apply shadows to different parts of the image. It is enough to save a little computing power to apply it elsewhere in the image.
