It was only a matter of time…Alexander Ovechkin joined Bret Hall as the fourth highest scorer in National Hockey League history on Monday night.
“Ovi” scored the 741st goal of his career, which is equal to the total of “Golden Brett”. See the video above.
In the second period of the game against the Buffalo Sabers, the Washington Capitals striker parried Dmitriy Orlov’s shot into the net to actually score his eleventh goal of the season. Thus he increased his team’s lead to 3-1, which eventually won 5-3.
Ovechkin was also complicit in the net from Tom Wilson, The Capitals’ first night, more than two minutes into the initial showdown. Wilson found the opponent’s back net for the second time, in the third inning. Conor McMichael and Conor Sherry completed the score for fan favorites.
At the other end of the ice, Cody Eiken, Anders Björk and Colin Miller beat out Capitals goalkeeper Vitek Vanessek, who saved 25 times in the win.
After the victory over Hull, the Russian will try to catch Jaromir Jäger, who has 766 goals. He can do it well this season.
Wayne Gretzky is the historical leader with 894 goals, 93 distances from Jordi Howe (801).
