Attorney Debra Katz said Sunday that a sexual misconduct allegation would have led to the firing of CNN presenter Chris Cuomo.
She said someone she represented, who she declined to name, came forward after Cuomo said on air that he cares about sexual harassment issues, shortly before he was accused of helping his brother, former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, respond to sexual assault allegations.
“Listening to the hypocrisy of Chris Cuomo’s words and disgust at his efforts to attempt to discredit these women, (this individual) retained the services of a lawyer to report his serious sexual misconduct against him to CNN,” Katz said in a statement.
The allegations against Chris Cuomo were reported by the alleged victim to CNN, according to Katz, offering to provide “documentary evidence” of his accusations.
“My client came forward at this point because she felt that by sharing her story and related documents, she could help protect other women,” Katz said.
The attorney also represents Charlotte Bennett, a former health policy advisor in the Andrew Cuomo administration, who has accused the former governor of inappropriate behavior.
CNN announced Cuomo’s shooting on Saturday, following an investigation into his involvement in his brother’s defense. He had been removed from the news channel a few days before his dismissal.
