The Boston Bruins paid top dollar to defeat the Washington Capitals 4-3 Thursday at TD Garden, losing striker Brad Marchand.
While running into an ice corner with Garnet Hathaway to get the puck, the Little Plague of the Massachusetts formation was checked by his opponent and fell hard. Hathaway also received a minor penalty for the sequence.
While his assistants Patrice Bergeron and David Pasternak, among others, began playing on the ice, Marchand remained on the bench, where he managed to see the Czechs’ goal. While trying to celebrate, Marchand was unable to raise his right arm and thus retreated to the locker room.
It was Pasternak’s second goal, which shook the ropes in the first half. Patrice Bergeron and Charlie McAvoy are the others who beat goalkeeper Vitek Vanessek, who saved 29 times in the loss.
At the other end of the rink, goalkeeper Linus Olmark did not look better, but he still signed the victory thanks to the performance of 14 saves on 17 shots. Evgeny Kuznetsov, Lars Eler and Niklas Backstrom cheated on his vigil.
The penguins are getting hot
In Pittsburgh, defender Mike Matheson led the Penguins to a 6-4 victory with a three-point performance against the Ottawa Senators.
Quebecers scored two goals, including a winning attempt at the end of the second half. Matheson well made his way into the opponent’s territory before handing him over to Jeff Carter, who quickly returned the favor. Then the full-back took a quick throw that baffled Philip Gustafson.
Although the Penguins’ 5-1 lead seemed impossible after 40 minutes, the Senators didn’t give up, scoring three goals without a response. Josh Norris (twice) and Tim Stutzel were at the origin of this finally aborted comeback with Jake Guenzel’s network.
Dominic Simon, Evgeny Malkin and Sidney Crosby also scored the homeowners’ mark.
amazing jackets
In Philadelphia, Oliver Björkstrand and Patrick Lane scored two superb goals to lead the Blue Jackets to a 2-1 victory over the Flyers.
The Dane opened the scoring in the middle of the second half. With a lone puck in front of the net, Bjorkstrand used his hands to create an opening and Carter Hart won with a backhand shot to the top.
Lin added some in the third inning with a perfect throw into the corner over the goalkeeper’s right shoulder.
Gerald Mayhew was the Flyers’ only scorer in his first game with the Pennsylvania team. He was the only one able to beat Elvis Merzlikins, who blocked 33 balls in the win.
