Applause and mixed results for the United Kingdom at the Beijing Winter Olympics

The United Kingdom won only two medals at the Beijing Olympics, fourteen medals for France.

The Olympics ended last night in Beijing with fireworks. The dominant games and winter games in Norway, Germany and China are definitely a reminder that the UK is not special.

Poor performance in the UK

The Beijing Olympics do not represent the British mindset by their success. Counting only two medals in two weeks, the British delegation leaves empty-handed. Throughout the match, the United Kingdom had no medals to their name, recovering by curling, before rising to the end of the match.

On the day of the closing ceremony yesterday, the women’s curling team retained the honor by winning the gold medal against Japan. Dominating the game 10-3, they won yesterday’s silver medal and won Saturday’s Curling. Not enough to compare with the five medals won in 2018 in South Korea. The British delegation said they were “disappointed” by the poor performance, which did not reach the target of at least three to seven medals. He says he wants to do everything he can to make his 2026 games a success.

France saved by biathlon

For their part, the French athletes came out with five gold medals, seven silver and two bronze. The French delegates are in tenth place on the medal list. In Pyongyang, four years ago, France was ninth in the rankings with a total of fifteen medals. However, the number of gold medals remains the same – five in total. It should be noted that there were twenty fewer players on the delegation this year than in previous tournaments.

If France can sustain its objectives, it is above all thanks to Biathlon who was the engine of French conquest. The game brought home only seven medals, half of which included three gold and four silver. France deserves special thanks to one man, Phytlet Quentin Fillon Milette, who, on his own, snatched five medals in discipline.
