Three years in prison for man who bought a Pokemon card for $57,000 from the COVID-19 emergency fund

At one point or another, we all make a bad purchase in our lives, but it may never have been quite as bad as the purchase made by Vinath Odomsin, a 31-year-old American, about two years ago.

In a very egregious example of brain spasm, a man from Georgia, USA bought a card in 2020 Pokemon From Charizard for a good $57,789. The problem is that he did so with money from an emergency fund given to him by the government to support his business during the COVID-19 crisis.

And the proverbial sundae, his work didn’t exist!

according to communication From the US Department of Justice, Odomsin had applied for a private loan in July 2020, in order to support a team of 10 employees, which, as I understand, was fictitious.

So the unsuspecting American state paid him $85,000 in August 2020, an amount that the fraudster later partially invested in the beautiful Charizard card.

His crime was clearly not complete, as the government arrested and prosecuted the fraud.

consequences? He was convicted of fraud and sentenced on Monday to three years in prison. He will also have to pay the US government $95,000 and spend another three years on supervised release after being released from prison.

And yes, Oudomsine also had to return his Charizard.

In other words, it is a shrinkage of the brain that will cost a lot of money.
