Dogs may reduce the risk of Crohn’s disease
Our dogs can limit the development of this digestive disease.
New research presented at the Digestive Diseases Week 2022 conference finds that dogs may help their owners reduce the risk of Crohn’s disease.

This disease is a chronic inflammation that can infect the walls of the digestive tract from the mouth to the anus.
As SyFy Fil reveals, the research followed 4,300 participants, all of whom were first-degree relatives of a patient with Crohn’s disease.
The researchers found a relationship between people exposed to dogs and a healthy balance between the gut microbiome and the immune response.
“This idea is consistent with a separate idea of immune health, known as the hygiene hypothesis, which suggests that increased exposure to microbes early in life may lead to a more robust immune response in the future,” SyFy Fil says.

Another interesting fact is that the reduced risk of Crohn’s disease does not apply to cats.
Currently, scientists have not yet determined what caused the positive effect of dogs and not cats. The researchers are working on two assumptions. The first relates to bacterial exposure to dogs. The second is about walking with dogs.
