Striker Nazim Qadri says unsurprisingly that he wants to stay with the Colorado Avalanche next season, except that he understands that nothing is certain in this file.
This year’s Stanley Cup winner, the 31-year-old skater will become an unrestricted free agent on July 13, unless he signs a new agreement with Avs by then.
Having terminated a six-year, $27 million contract with Toronto Maple Leafs in the summer of 2016, Kadri is well positioned to claim a fairly high compensation. He scored big goals in the playoff round in Colorado, collecting 15 points in 16 games.
When asked about the possibility of returning to Denver he said, “Why wouldn’t it be?” family members [Stan] Kronky [propriétaire de la concession] I was a big supporter of myself and they made it clear to me that they wanted to keep me here. On the other hand, I understand that there is a commercial aspect at stake, and we will work together.
Negotiations can be difficult on the part of the team, because the hockey player has also had a good regular season. In 71 matches, Qadri scored 87 points, including 59 assists, setting a personal high for both offensive stats.
“I’ve shown my worth and I can’t wait to see how everything develops,” he said.
Colorado acquired Kadri from the Leafs in a deal on July 1, 2019. In the trade, Tyson Barrie and Alexander Kerfoot made their way to Ontario.
