Jack Eichel scored three goals and one assist against his former team as the Vegas Golden Knights won 7-4 Thursday in Buffalo.
Thus the Saber suffered a fourth loss in a row, while Vegas still sits at the top of the NHL with this ninth straight win.
The Knights are only one success away from their team’s record set in April 2021. They have the best record in the National Hockey League (13-2-0).
Eshel was the subject of mockery from the fans, especially as he did not miss two big breakaway chances against the club that traded him on November 4, 2021. He tried the same maneuver twice but goalkeeper Eric Comrie frustrated him each time.
Never mind, his teammates took charge of the attack before finally freeing himself in the third game, completing a hat-trick with an empty net 8 seconds left. He also provided a decisive pass against Alex Petrangelo.
Pietrangelo contributed Eichel’s first goal and Chandler Stephenson’s opening goal at 5:44 of the first half, in a power game. Stevenson added three assists to his record tonight.
Phil Kessel and Paul Cotter were the other two to score in the win.
Casey Mittelstadt and Rasmus Asplung (without a man) provided the answer on the other side, as well as Taj Thompson, who has found himself scoring 10 goals this season.
Logan Thompson held 31 rounds for the sixth straight win. The longest streak for a goalkeeper this season, set by Vitek Vanessek of the New Jersey Devils, tied.
