Australia and New Zealand advanced to the World Cup finals at the expense of Papua New Guinea and England.
The first semi-final was very uneven on paper and it was on the pitch. Papua New Guinea took 10 minutes to see the score. Australia scored 40 points in the first half and 42 points after the break in a final 82–0 victory.
The second semi-final promised to be much tougher, and it was a half anyway. The English started well, scoring the first try of the game. The Kiwi Ferns come back with two unconverted tries but it’s all 6-8 at the break. The start to the second act was one-sided, with the New Zealanders too strong and scoring twice in quick succession in good action. The English try to react, but it defends well. New Zealand won 20-6 to send England into the final.
