Passengers say they were moved from one hotel to another after having to sleep on the floor at the airport.
We just want to go home
explains Tess Frydenberger, who was originally scheduled to fly to Calgary Dec. 22 from Mexico City with Sunwing. The company said it had to cancel its flights due to the weather.
I never would have imagined that I would find myself in such a situation. I didn’t even think it was possible. We write to the consulate and lawyers, and are willing to do whatever it takes.
It adds that the information provided by Sunwing was insufficient or inaccurate. Mrs. Frydenberger left Calgary on December 15 for Cancun and was scheduled to return home a week later, but received word that her flight was delayed. Notice returned the following days, with the flight postponed to later in the week.
In the end, she and her boyfriend were told they could leave on Christmas Eve, she said. But the day came, a Sunwing employee told them that the flight did not exist. Since then, they have had no more information as to when they will be able to return.
Travelers sleep in hotel entrances
During this wait, she explained that she and several other passengers were being driven from hotel to hotel in Cancun, with taxi costs at their expense.
She says the second hotel she went to was not notified of her arrival and had no rooms available. She explains that some have fallen asleep in the hallway while waiting for a final bed.
There were old people who needed medicine, and there were children all over the hall, screaming and crying and trying to sleep

In multiple Twitter posts on Dec. 22, 23, and 24, Sunwing said it had canceled flights due to high wind conditions at several locations across Canada.

She says she has met other Canadians stranded in Cancun after the cancellation of other Sunwing flights, who will face similar setbacks.
Cristina Obedisano says her flight from Cancun to Toronto on Dec. 21 has also been cancelled. She explained that she and her family did not know when they would be able to return.
We’re stuck here
Cristina Obedesano explains that her group of 10 people, including four children, were sent to hotels they weren’t notified of. They had to sleep at the airport or in the hotel entrances.
She adds that nearly 100 passengers had to board her canceled flight.
In a letter sent Sunday to The Canadian Press and CBC Monday, Sunwing explains that A.J Northbound flights
It continues to experience delays due to severe weather conditions that impede the ability to move aircraft and personnel to other airports.
The company did not specify how many flights would be affected.
The statement sent to the CBC says southbound customers whose flights were canceled due to weather have been refunded.
For customers affected by delays of 24 hours or more whose flights fall during the period up to 30 December, they have the option to cancel their flight and receive a full refund.
