Australia and New Zealand have already passed in 2023

Fireworks have already lit up the sky in Australia and New Zealand to celebrate the start of the New Year.

Part of the world is already in 2023. New Zealand and Eastern Australia celebrated the New Year with traditional fireworks displays. New Zealand was the first to celebrate the New Year with a light display in its capital, Auckland.

In particular, fireworks were sent off near the Sky Tower, which had to be canceled last year due to restrictions related to the Covid-19 pandemic.

In Australia, the iconic Opera House and Sydney Harbor Bridge are illuminated in blue, red and purple. This year’s program, inspired by “land, sea and sky,” paid tribute to the “guardians of the Earth,” according to the city.

The Harbor Bridge is decorated in rainbow colors as the city next February hosts World Pride, an event organized every two years in a different country and intended to promote issues related to the LGBT community.

Sydney has regained its title as the “New Year’s Eve Capital of the World” after two years of closures and celebrations crippled by the Omicron variant. Australian borders have reopened and more than a million people are expected to witness the release of more than 100,000 pyrotechnic devices in Sydney Harbour.

City officials estimate that nearly half a billion viewers will watch the show online or on TV. By noon, hundreds of people were already occupying the best seats to watch the show. “It’s been a good year for us, it’s great that Covid is out,” said David Hough-Patterson, 52, who installed the front of the Sydney Opera House.

“We will succeed if we rally everyone to the party and approach the coming year with renewed confidence and joy,” explained fireworks organizer Fortunato Foti.
