Sergey Kostitsyn and Jean Peron.
These are two names that have not left anyone indifferent for several years. Both men were popular in their own ways around town: Peron was a panelist on the sports show called 110% (and the former head coach of the Canadiens) while Sergey made headlines with the Canadiens for a whole host of reasons… reasons that weren’t necessarily positive.
The guy who won the Stanley Cup at the helm of CH during the 1985-86 season was there last night To the La Poche Bleue podcast and extracted several particularly interesting anecdotes.
Me, what particularly excited me…
It’s when he talks about the time the younger brother of the two Kostitsyn wanted to fight with him while Perron was on the job, specifically for the 110% show.
Once, Sergey Kostitsyn was on the windowsill outside and was banging on the window with his fist and said to me “Come on, come on, I’m going to kick your ass!” – Jean Perron
Private, the same.
On the other hand, it doesn’t seem to surprise me much. We remember how Sergey and Andrei Kostitsyn had personalities that were a little out of the ordinary.
I find it a little hard to believe that Sergey understood Perón’s criticisms of him at the time because Sergei actually didn’t speak a single word of French…and even his English left something to be desired.
In all cases. Sergey, it was Sergey.
In the end, it makes for a great story. It must be weird like that, to see a Montreal Canadiens player want to attack you to “beat your ass.” At the very least, I can’t seem to imagine a scenario in which Cole Cofield would want to fight me on the subway for some reason.
