More than 200,000 Montreal homes were without electricity (and thus fans and air conditioners) on Thursday afternoon, as the city was going through a bout of heat. Therefore, about a fifth of households in Montreal found themselves temporarily without electricity.
They were only about 135,000 around 4:30 p.m., and then barely 1,250 early in the evening.
The neighborhoods of Côte de Neige, Notre-Dame-de-Grace and Saint-Laurent were particularly affected, as well as the cities of Côte-Saint-Luc, Hampstead, Kirkland, Beaconsfield and Pointe-Claire.
At Montreal Airport, US-bound flights have been grounded due to the outage. “Please contact the airline to confirm flight schedules,” the airport said on its Twitter account.
Hydro-Quebec blames “the triggering of a protection mechanism on one of our high-voltage transmission lines”. The analysis is ongoing [en] Find out the exact cause,” says the state corporation.
