The competition is underway: the companies involved in the race have been selected to lay out the plans for the high-frequency train (TGF) that should connect Quebec City to Toronto.
Three consortia have been targeted to move to the next stage: Cadence, which includes four companies, Interurban Railway Developers, which represents ten companies, and five other QConnection Rail Partners.
Detailed project proposals can be submitted from September until next summer.
However, there are mandatory criteria that must be met, including the number of basic stops.
“We definitely had Montreal, Trois-Rivières and Laval. After that, we will discuss the possibility of including other stops,” recalls the Minister of Canadian Heritage and Lieutenant-General of Quebec, Pablo Rodriguez.
This assurance reassures the residents of Trois-Rivières who are officially a priority.
“It of course brings us closer to the big centres. It allows us to think, in terms of Trifluvien’s quality of life, of improvement,” added the mayor of Trois-Rivières, Jean Lamarche.
Ministers remained cautious about the cost of the project. It has been compared to REM, which costs $7 billion: TGF would be four or five times larger in terms of infrastructure. What do you think tens of billions would be necessary to see it come out with us.
