The US provides minimal service to the UK

Many favorites competed this Saturday with more or less inspiring performances.

Taking care of your entrance is important. This Saturday, the Women’s World Cup gave us four new posters, notably the debuts of the USA, England and Denmark. At the end of the day, little is known about the state of form of each of these teams among the contenders for the ultimate crown. If all succeed, some are more resilient than others…

The reigning world champions were unconcerned

Aiming for a third world title in a row, the United States was the logical favorite. The Americans are in Group E, a status they have quickly assumed to enter. Facing a modest Vietnam team (32ᵉ in the FIFA rankings), the USA never doubted. The Americans, led by Kala Sophia Smith (2 goals and 1 assist), showed great passivity and forced their way to a 3-0 win. Next up, the Netherlands, another pair of sleeves.

England was scared

The day was not so easy for the European champions in Group D. Against Haiti, England had to fight back to secure a narrow victory. Their salvation came from the penalty spot following a volley by Haitian Kethna Lewis in the penalty area. Georgia Stanway (29th) didn’t miss the chance to score the only goal of the game and give the Three Lions a valuable entry win. They should show a completely different face against Denmark on Friday.

Denmark took their time

Sixteen years after their last appearance at the World Cup, Denmark did not miss their comeback. However, patience was necessary to see the Danes’ win take shape against China, as Paris Saint-Germain’s Amalie Wangsgaard (91ᵉ minute) scored the only goal of the match. The Euro 2017 finalists are among the tournament’s underdogs. The next match against England will be a real test.

Japanese box

Finally, in Group C, Japan took the lead against Spain following a big 0 to 5 win over Zambia, including double signing Hinata Miyazawa.
