Felix Auger-Aliassime fell 6-4 6-4 to Adrian Mannarino in the second round of the Masters 1000 in Cincinnati on Tuesday.
After being broken in the fifth game of the first set, Quebec was broken again quickly in the second set, in the third game. But he faltered in turn and the Frenchman did not miss his chance to serve the match at 40-0.
Auger-Aliassime, the 14th-ranked batter in the world, committed 21 unforced errors and 8 double faults, while collecting one ace.
On Monday, he beat Italy’s Matteo Berrettini in the first round for his first win since May. He hasn’t had two straight wins since March.
The next major tournament will be held alongside the US Open, which will start on August 28, after Winston-Salem.
Mannarino, would continue his run in Sensei against either Mackenzie McDonald or sixth seed Holger Rohn.
The 35-year-old Frenchman, winner of three titles on the ATP circuit, including one in Newport this year, is ranked 32nd in the world.
For her part, Gabriela Dabrowski and her playing partner Irene Rotliff defeated Shoko Aoyama and Ina Shibahara in identical sets 6-4 in doubles.
