The happy tenant even shares their rent with their roommate.
“We have a very good deal here, we’re very happy. We have two bedrooms, a bathroom and then the room here is the kitchen and the living room. We also have a little patio,” Alexis explains.
Alexis’ situation is extremely rare, while “in Greater Montreal, the number of housing available for rent is about 1,500%,” laments FRAPRU spokeswoman Veronique Laflame in an interview with TVA Nouvelles.
She adds, “This does not guarantee cleanliness… We find housing that is expensive and in poor condition, but due to the scarcity of rented housing, real estate owners with bad intentions take advantage of this situation.”
Of the approximately 450 homeless people in Quebec, 130 are in Montreal.
