A young woman crossing a street in Saint-Henri was surprised when she discovered an open pit on a huge cavity under the road late Wednesday afternoon.
If everything looked nearly normal on the surface, a small hole caught the attention of Ossien Robert, who was shopping at the drugstore around 4 p.m.
She was crossing Rose de Lima Street not far from Workman when she saw him. “I almost fell!” she says in an interview with TVANouvelles.ca.
Intrigued by this unusual, hole-like opening, she photographed the interior.
In the short video, we can see the particularly deep and large cavity. “Check that hole, how hollow it is!” we hear her say in photos she sent to TVA Nouvelles.
“I saw the smooth asphalt around him, as if he was going inside,” explained the young Montrealer.
She was worried about the collapse of the street, and tried to intercept a car, but the driver did not understand what she wanted to say to him.
“It’s a one-way street, lots of bikes and few cars,” she says.
The citizen adds that road works were carried out at this site, but more than two years ago.
We have contacted the City of Montreal to get more details and see if they will step in to secure the venue quickly.
More details will follow.
