Busier than ever creating her work, singer and actress Evelyn Brochu presents her second album, DangerWhich most texts sign. His record is an uninhibited party, an evening of dancing in which a kind of melancholy is tempered with lightness.
Evelyn Brochu had so much fun creating her debut album that she knew she would continue on this path. When you exitMissing thingsIn 2019, she spoke about the door she allowed herself to open to explore this other side of her life, as she is also a singer in addition to being an actress. Once that door was opened, there was no question of closing it again.
“But the album wasn’t made for the last four years, because in the meantime, there was the pandemic and I had twins,” she tells us. It was precisely at the end of her maternity leave, while she was in Paris between two filming sessions, that she began writing what would become Danger“More Free Than The First” album.
“I was alone,” the singer says, “and I went back to Evelyn, who wrote many poems in cafés or bars in her youth.”

I never shared that side of me, but after experiencing the first album where one of my poems became the song Exactly seven daysI wanted to keep it going.

She got “the bug” so much that she found the courage to write about her next album. She sent her writing to Felix Diot, her dear friend and collaborator, who wrote the other songs on the album (in addition to wearing several other hats, including those of composer, director, and musician).
“One day I sent him [la chanson-titre] Danger In return, he sent me Danger [un autre morceau du disque]“We talked like this until last November, and it took us about two months to work on the music,” says Evelyn Brochu.
“To adapt to the daycare schedule,” they spent entire days at Félix’s house, turning these texts into songs, before recording everything at Studio Dandurand, surrounded by talented musicians, such as Guillaume Éthier, Camille Gélinas and Maxime Castellon.
Then we added “a slightly more popular treatment” to the mix to make it the thing we hear today.
Compared to the first disc, Evelyn Brochu says, “We are in the same province, but not in the same city.” This album is more festive, less melancholic, and actually more pop (the synthesizers have a blast on several tracks). But we still feel the beautiful influence of French song in the style of Mylène Farmer. The singer also quotes Plamondon when referring to her song Shadows. In short, there is everything, but everything is appropriate, because themes of celebration, desire and sensuality are imbued from beginning to end.
“The journey forward”
“It’s amazing and addictive at the same time,” says Evelyn Brochu when she talks about being a singer. The actress we saw Sister in law, Tom on the farm or Café de Flore She still feels “butterflies” when she makes music. “This album has increased tenfold,” she reveals. There’s something magical, just doing it, and seeing it come to life in the studio. I felt so proud to watch this explosion of talent, to watch everything [mes collaborateurs] for work. I see it like screen printing, where more layers of colors appear each time. »
The colors of this dial are a little more garish than Evelyn Brochu first suggested to her. “It is an invitation to desire, to joy, to what is ultimately light.”

She quotes the play the garden As one of his favourites. In this her “acting side” is expressed. “There is a combination of lightness, escaping forward, and the desire to step out of oneself and turn toward the other,” she describes. However, it is the room Danger Which ended up being the title song. Why ?
“It’s multi-sensory,” the singer answers. Coming out of the pandemic, we were in danger, and we felt vulnerable. From an environmental standpoint, we feel threatened. We are in an age of anxiety where lightness is no longer appropriate. We can no longer allow ourselves this lightness and this relationship with life where we move from passion to passion, from joy to joy. The answer to that is the opposite. »
on Danger“The more he moved, the more he missed his target,” she sings. She believes that by committing to changing things, and moving toward joy, perhaps we can avoid danger.
“There’s also this more intimate aspect, where women are often told to be careful all the time,” she adds. I was actually told that I was too concerned with temptation, and that it might cost me roles. Women are told that they are either dangerous or in danger. I wondered what would happen if we broke out of this paradigm and went and played in the alley with the cats. »
The record’s release will come with its share of celebrations, including shows in Montreal (October 14) and Quebec (October 19). “We will play on the edge,” she said. It will be vibrant and festive, just like the album. It will be bolder and more humble. »
