Cayden Primo’s comeback with Laval Rocket was not hoped as Canadian School Club lost 3-2 to Toronto Marley’s on Friday.
The goalkeeper was playing his first Major League Soccer game since April 2 when he joined the Montreal Canadiens. Marlis Primo had a strong reception, as they scored twice in the first three shots.
Justin Brazzo managed to free himself to the left of the goalkeeper to outpace him with a good throw. Three minutes later, Cali Cosila doubled his team’s lead when he defeated the goalkeeper in a move to his right.
The missile set the record straight at the beginning of the middle period. Yannick Veilleux scored his 14th goal in the campaign with help from Alex Belzile and Laurent Dauphin. Bilsel then happily re-routed Dauphine’s throw behind Michael Hutchinson to level the score.
With 90 seconds remaining on the kick-off, Pavel Gogolev jumped a free ball into the penalty area and beat Primo. Goalkeeper Rocket was looking for his eighth consecutive Major League win that would have been a record for Rocket’s team. He finished his night with 17 saves and 20 shots.
The two teams met for the third time in four days, and they began to appear in the third period. Veilleux was notably involved in many discussions with his opponents, notably with Hutchinson.
The Rocket got a power game late in the third period, but failed to take advantage of it, even eliminating Primo in favor of a sixth skater.
Hutchinson banned Joël Bouchard’s men from returning to score in the third game and returned 39 balls at the end of the match.
Rocket will meet Marlise on Saturday before finishing its season again on Monday in front of Maple Leaves school club.
