“Triumph” for Starbucks in Saguenay

The multinational Starbucks branch in Saguenay is the first in Quebec to unionize, the Confederation of Syndicates National (CSN) has announced.

The employees of the specialized café obtained accreditation with the Catering Employees Syndicate (CSN) by decision of the Administrative Labor Court.

Employees of the Starbucks, located at 1331 Talbot St., in Chicoutimi, wanted “an improvement in their working conditions.”

CSN President Caroline Senneville declared a “victory” for the branch’s 30 employees.

“As is often the case for multi-billion dollar multinational corporations, anti-union practices are almost part of Starbucks’ brand identity. This company is famous for its insistence on preventing its workers around the world from enforcing their rights and even their freedom of expression! “Today’s victory extends far beyond Quebec and Canada. Chicoutimi employees are no longer alone in facing their employer, they can now count on the strength of their 330,000 supportive comrades across the country!” she stressed via a press release.
