Paris: On the Champs-Élysées, the Gaumont Marignan cinema closes its doors – (France 2)
On the Champs-Élysées in Paris, the Gaumont Marignan cinema is closing its doors after 90 years of history. Reports preparation.
This is the last session, and the end of an era. A historic moment, unfortunately for the last spectators. Cinema being outdated, Aurelien Busque is clearly sad to end this story. But declining attendance and real estate prices have taken a toll on this cinema. “We are in a listed building, there are a lot of restrictions, heavy real estate restrictions and we have not been able to modernize the cinema.”denounces Aurelien Busque, President of Pathé Cinémas.
One of the most beautiful cinemas in Paris
Opened in 1933, it was nonetheless one of the most beautiful Art Deco cinemas in Paris. With its own orchestra and legendary hostesses. All the stars of the world gathered there. All major premieres were held here. With 17 cinemas, the Champs-Élysées was the legendary avenue of the 7th art. An atmosphere worthy of the Cannes Festival.
