SEOUL, Dec. 8 — The Australian subsidiary of Hanwha Aerospace Co. signed a 3.1 trillion won ($2.4 billion) contract Friday to supply Australia with 129 Redback armored infantry fighting vehicles, the Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) said.
Hanwha Defense Australia signed the deal with the Melbourne-based Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group, an Australian government agency responsible for procuring military equipment, DAPA said.
A subsidiary of the South Korean defense specialist firm was last July selected as the preferred bidder for the Land 400 Phase 3 project aimed at replacing the aging fleet of M113 armored personnel carriers.
The new vehicles will be manufactured in Australia and deliveries will be spread over two years from 2027 to 2028, Hanwha Aerospace said. According to DAPA, the agreement represents the second contract for the export of land military equipment to Australia after a December 2021 signing for the supply of K9 self-propelled howitzers.
