The US Department of Justice has brought new charges against Hunter Biden, the son of the US President, CNN reported Thursday, citing people familiar with the matter.
The exact nature of the lawsuits was not immediately clear because court documents have not yet been made public, CNN reported.
But the American network cites nine charges, including non-payment of taxes, evading audit, as well as submitting a false or fraudulent tax return.
Neither a spokesman for special prosecutor David Weiss, who was appointed last August, nor Hunter Biden’s attorney immediately responded to requests for comment.
Joe Biden’s son was expected to plead guilty in July to two counts of willful failure to pay income taxes as part of a deal with the Justice Department, but the judge in the case said he could not accept the agreement in its current form and needed more time to review it.
David Weiss continues to investigate whether Hunter Biden could be charged with tax fraud.
