Note to amateur astronomers: Thursday evening, look up at the sky to see the largest meteor shower of the year.
The Geminids movement, underway since November 19, will reach its climax on Thursday. With more than 120 meteors per hour, this meteor shower is the largest of the year, even surpassing the Perseids.
This is a great opportunity to introduce young astronomers to observing, according to NASA, since the stellar shower begins relatively early, around 9 p.m.
The space agency has some tips to make sure you enjoy the event as much as possible.
First, try to find a location away from city lights, as light pollution makes it difficult to see faint meteors.
Prepare for the cold. Warm clothes, sleeping bags and blankets should not be neglected.
The optimal position for observation, according to NASA experts, is to lie on your back with your feet facing south.
If you don’t see one right away: be patient! Meteors continue throughout the night until dawn, giving your eyes plenty of time to adjust to the darkness. After about thirty minutes in the dark, you should start seeing more and more meteors.
