Behind the camera, George Clooney gets the job done They were one man The film, about the US rowing team’s rise to the Olympics, is a sports drama starring Joel Edgerton and Callum Turner.
No doubt, They were one man The inspiring sports and biopic, in which George Clooney as a director distinguishes himself in the way the rowing race scenes are shot, does not repeat, and the sport, thanks to the judicious placement of cameras and drones, acquires an amazing speed.
No doubt, They were one man Inspiring, giving pride of place to the values of unity, self-effacing and courage in the face of adversity. The screenplay was written by Mark L. smith (Midnight sky), adapted from the work boys in the boat, Written by Daniel James Brown, it focuses on the journey of Joe Rantz (Callum Turner).
The young man, who was a student at the University of Washington in the 1930s, was expelled by his father when he was 14 years old. When the film begins, the United States is in the midst of an economic crisis—the Great Depression—and Joe does not have enough to pay for his college courses and even less enough to eat. When he saw an advertisement, he decided to apply to be part of the foundation’s rowing team, as it would provide him with accommodation and a salary. Against all odds, coach Al Olbrikson (Joel Edgerton) will lead the nine athletes, including eight rowers, to the 1936 Berlin Olympics.
Classic director George Clooney doesn’t care about big effects and lets the images do the talking. Thus, the team’s arrival in Nazi Germany does not elicit any specific comment, as the swastika flags are sufficient to get the message across. The principle is the same with Joe’s situation, there is nothing wailing, nothing melodramatic – and Alexandre Desplat’s music remains contained.
We can blame They were one man To pay in the agreed upon and to be less mobile than Tender barGeorge Clooney’s previous film from 2021, starring Ben Affleck. But this means forgetting his qualities as a director, the economy of camera movements, the precision of the shots, and the wise choice of actors, which sometimes reminds us of Clint Eastwood.
They were one man It hits Quebec theaters on December 25.
