Patrick Kane and his agent Pat Bryson made sure the 88's defensemen were well protected before signing a four-part deal with Steve Yzerman and the Detroit Red Wings.
Throughout his one-year, $2.75 million contract, we find the following sign: If the Red Wings don't find themselves in contention for the playoffs at the dawn of the deadline, Yzerman is committed to replacing Kane with the ambitious team.
As I write these few words, the Wings are out of the playoffs with a poor record of two wins and eight losses in their last ten meetings. Derek Lalonde's men are riding a two-game losing streak.
What's special is that this nightmare sequence happened when the 88, who had been playing on the wings for 11 matches, appeared.
Patrick Kane is a point-per-game player for the Red Wings after undergoing hip resurfacing surgery, and he has scored six goals in 11 games so far.

But with the presence and substance of Kane, who has 11 points, including six goals in 11 matches, it is difficult to point the finger of blame at him. He's doing exactly what we've come to expect from him…it's rather a David Perron who's starting to fall asleep offensively with a lackluster performance the last few games.
Perón's last point dates back to December 5. However, remember that he was suspended for six matches. Since his return, he has not collected any points in three matches.
However, if the Wings don't reboot the machine, Yzerman will have to make good on his word by providing the 35-year-old veteran with proper training.
If he does appear on the show, a slew of teams will show up to dance with Yzerman, including the Rangers, Oilers, Avalanche, Stars, Panthers and Maple Leafs.
This is an important name to keep on your radar between now and March 8.
