Australia Funds Mekong Delta Rice Value Chain Transformation
The Netherlands Development Organization (SNV), together with stakeholders, organized a conference on Tuesday (January 16) to announce the project “Transforming the Rice Value Chain for Sustainable and Climate-Resilient Development in the Mekong Delta” (TRVC).

The five-year plan, which ends in 2027, is being implemented by SNV in three provinces: An Giang, Kien Giang and Dong Thap, in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
Trân Thu Hà, project director, said the Australian Embassy in Vietnam has contributed A$16 million to the TRVC project.
It will support the transition to low-emission rice production over 200,000 hectares in the Mekong Delta and improve the livelihoods of smallholder farmers in the Mekong Delta, contributing to the implementation of the “Sustainable Development of Rice” project. Through a pay-for-results mechanism, the TRVC program encourages and attracts private sector participation in the rice value chain to improve rice, with the aim of developing innovative technologies to achieve better economic outcomes for smallholder farmers and all stakeholders in the rice value chain. Quality, reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and promoting inclusive social values.
The results of the TRVC project are expected to contribute to the implementation of the “sustainable development of one million hectares specialized in high-quality and low-emission rice cultivation associated with green growth in the Mekong Delta by 2030”.
