It was brewing last night.
Remember, Brendan Gallagher made a dangerous move at the end of the match against New York. You know as well as I do that the illegal blow to Adam Billick's head was serious.
Here's the gesture again.
Five major minutes + game misconduct for making an illegal check on Gallagher's head.
This *should* result in a long comment. pic.twitter.com/2CGr2bpJac

We expected him to be called by the NHL to explain his position, but it remains to be seen whether that will be done in person or over the phone. After all, doing so over the phone means a player can't be suspended for more than five matches.
And now we know it will be over the phone. So Galli avoids the worst.
Not in person, so Gallagher appears to have avoided the worst-case scenario. https://t.co/WAOwmug4eN

We can believe that the fact that Galli is not a repeat offender means the league chose not to go there with a personal call-up of No. 11 for the Canadian.
In my opinion, this deserved a personal hearing… but oh well.
Therefore, the Canadian will have to wait to see what the player protection department decides to commit to. However, in the short term, Martin St. Louis can prepare: Gallagher should not be available tomorrow night in Pittsburgh.
Since CH was unable to call up a player to replace him (that is, with the suspension), we can believe that the Canadian will play with Jesi Ilonen tomorrow evening, who is the extra striker for a few days.
Unless you choose the 7-11 format…but I don't think so.
With CH being one game away from the break, I don't think the club will be in trouble without Gallagher. After that, we will see in due course what the club will do if Gallagher is unable to play when he returns from the break, i.e. for the match on 6 February.
