National Hockey League: Winnipeg Jets defeat Anaheim Ducks 6-0

The Winnipeg Jets took first place in the Central Division with a 6-0 win over the Anaheim Ducks on Friday.

Goalie Laurent Brossoit blocked 22 shots to record his second shutout of the season against the Jets, who have the same number of points (89) as the Avalanche and Stars at the top of the division, but with fewer games played which explains why they are at the top.

It is also the Jets' sixth shutout of the season. There are only three clubs that have done better in this category so far. In the history of the Jets/Thrashers series, this is the sixth time the team has notched at least six goals during a campaign.

Former Montreal Canadiens player Tyler Toffoli took advantage of the game to score his first two goals in his new uniform.

The confrontation promised to be unequal, as the Jets, before the meeting, had a 38-point lead in the standings over the Ducks, who lost for the eighth time in a row to the Manitoba team.

Kyle Connor opened the scoring at 16:20 of the first period when he blocked a shot past John Gibson.

On the second power play, Nate Schmidt scored his second goal of the season when the puck deflected off two skates and found its way into the net.

In the third period, the Jets scored four goals to put the game out of reach for the Ducks. Dylan DeMelo's shot gave Gibson no chance as Toffoli, acquired from the New Jersey Devils at the trade deadline, scored his 27th and 28th goals of the season.

Mason Appleton completed the scoring with a power play goal with six seconds left.
