The Northern Lights will become increasingly frequent in France until 2025

For several months, the northern lights have been observed in France. This is a phenomenon that will be repeated more and more this year, especially in 2025, even if it is impossible to predict.

When we think of the Northern Lights, we mainly think of the Nordic countries and the Polar regions, but we never think of France. However, this phenomenon has already appeared a few months ago, in certain places in France such as Pas-de-Calais, the Alps, Alsace, Auvergne, and Côte d'Azur.

Last week, on the night of Sunday, March 24 to Monday, March 25, the Northern Lights were predicted to occur due to a solar flare. In the end it wasn't there, it was just postponed.

In fact, the northern lights are expected to increasingly arrive in France this year, as well as in 2025. This phenomenon consists of solar flares, and accompanies a solar cycle that is currently in a phase of very strong activity.

Unexpected northern lights?

Therefore, the next peak of solar activity should be recorded in July 2025, which will usually cause an increasing number of solar storms and opportunities for the formation of auroras every now and then. While waiting for its peak, the closer we get to it, the more solar flares will occur.

On the other hand, it will be impossible to predict the appearance of the aurora a few days in advance. You will have to be on the lookout because signs of the aurora borealis can only be perceived two to three hours before the phenomenon occurs.

In this process, the solar flare occurs a day or two before the aurora. Only then when the explosion is observed can we predict its consequences, and thus the potential aurora.
