Last March, Dale D'Agostino, 42, received 317 penalty notices for unpaid fines. He was reportedly fined for driving his 12-year-old Volkswagen Caravelle van in the Bradford Low Emission Zone in West Yorkshire, England.
“I have to sell everything”
The problem is, he never got fined. For good reason, the initial fines were sent to his former home, where he no longer resided.
An exorbitant sum for a forty-year-old to either go into debt or sell things: “I don't know how I'm going to raise this amount,” he explained to the British newspaper. “I don't have that money, so I have to sell everything to pay for it,” he added.
The motorist appealed these tickets, but management denied his request. “They have to pay all the fines,” Dale D'Agostino continued.
A low-emissions zone similar to that in France was set up in Bradford in September 2022. British media recalled that non-compliant vehicles would have to pay a fine of 9 pounds or 10.5 euros.
Although personal cars and motorcycles are exempt, Dale D'Agostino did not declare his old Volkswagen Caravelle pickup truck as his personal vehicle. An oversight cost him dearly.
