The union representing Air Canada pilots says it intends to seek federal conciliator intervention in negotiations with the airline.
The Airline Pilots Association, which represents more than 5,000 Air Canada pilots, says the two sides are still a long way from reaching an agreement. The union intends to exit the voluntary mediation process on June 15.
It announces that it will send a Notice of Dispute to inform the Federal Ministry of Labor that the parties have failed to reach a new agreement. He will be asked to appoint a conciliator in the case.
Air Canada says it is negotiating in good faith. The company plans to continue doing this over the coming months.
She adds that her customers can continue to book and travel with confidence, while continuing the normal negotiation process.
Canadian pilots highlighted the growing gap between their salaries and the salaries of their colleagues at the largest US airlines. Last year, they secured a four-year collective agreement that gives them overall raises ranging from 34 to 40 percent.
