Two young men discovered a long tunnel dating back a hundred years, under their house in the state of Michigan, in the United States, according to what many American media reported. It would have been used in the Prohibition era to smuggle goods.
Hayley and Trevor Gilmartin explained in a video posted on TikTok that they had begun renovating their home. In particular, they wanted to remove the old spa that was inside it.
While removing the hot tub, the couple discovered the sinister room filled with water, located more than 20 feet below the house.
The young woman told the newspaper that the room would be directly connected to Lake Huron, where Mr. and Mrs. Gilmartin live nearby. Newsweek. Except for a six-foot water hose, the room was empty.
Instead of panicking, the two people decided to get to the end of the puzzle by going to the other side of the tunnel.
“We dove into the river and found the other end,” Gilmartin said. Press jam. He said it was “impossible” to pump water because the chamber “is still receiving it from Lake Huron and its connected rivers.”
They later learned that some neighbors had similar tunnels under their homes.
According to experts, the area where the couple lived is responsible for about 75% of Prohibition-related activities in the 1920s.
“We will continue to explore it and, if possible, remove the water and perhaps create a recreation room or bowling alley,” Gilmartin told Newsweek.
