Project “divides” citizens, says Jocelyn

Opposition leader Jean-François Jocelyn laments the “split” caused by the Limoelo tram project.

According to him, the restrictions on the trams help to create discord in the areas being crossed.

“It’s heavily dividing the citizens of Limoilo. Ordinary. It’s hard to get the tram into the city. It’s dividing neighborhoods, dividing people.”

He says his party’s alternative solution, the Underground Lightweight Electric Automatic Vehicle (VALSE), is more “standardised”.

However, VALSE does not serve Limoilou. Provides a metro in the upper town to Parliament Hill, then a tram bus at Dufresne-Montmorency which will go to d’Estemoville bypass Limoeille.

Mr. Jocelyn says he is ready to review his plans. “If the citizens of Limoilou tell us they want a tram bus that leaves from D’Estimauville and takes the Boulevard Sainte-Anne and de la Canardière, it will be possible. We have room in our budget.”

From his conversations with residents of Limaul, the Quebec 21 leader instead concludes that citizens want the status quo with the existing metrobus routes.

He also notes that the Dufferin-Montmorency Road has the advantage of diverting transit traffic out of the neighborhood.

For his part, Jean Rousseau, the leader of democracy in Quebec, welcomed the choice of path, while lamenting that many citizens’ questions remain unanswered.

It raises questions heard during public consultations, regarding the impacts on travel and through traffic, urban development and logging.
