The Olympic Stadium, located on the outskirts of Yaounde, will be operational at the end of August. It will also host the September 2 test match between Cameroon and Malawi, a friendly match as part of preparations for the Qatar 2022 World Cup qualifiers. The announcement was made by the Minister of Sports and Physical Education (Mincep), Narcisse Moel Kombe, who visited the site on July 14, 2021.
During his evaluation visit, Minsip was assured of the stadium’s progress. The garden and many booths look great. Narcisse Mouelle Kombi notably visited the stadium’s ultra-modern radio and television studios, where he sat temporarily to appreciate the decor. Canadian manufacturer Magill assured him that the stadium would start operating in August.
Minsep took the opportunity to make new recommendations. In particular, the installation of pangolin scales to cover the outside of the stadium, the installation of elevators and screens in the main stadium before the end of July, and the increase of workers to speed up the completion of work. Under construction since 2017, the 50,000-seat Olympic Stadium is supposed to host the opening and final match of 33e The African Cup of Nations (CAN 2021) football which will be held from 9 January to 6 February 2022 in our country.
