Deux Rives funeral co-op: Staff on strike for 48 hours starting Tuesday

Facing a dead end in negotiations with employers, employees of the funeral co-op Dew Reeves began a 48-hour strike on Tuesday morning.

The stakes were erected in the morning in front of the foundation’s administrative center located on Rue Godin, in Quebec.

“The employer has continued to maintain a large number of requests for setbacks at the collective agreement level,” lamented in a press release from the Rivers District Funeral Workers’ Union, a subsidiary of CSN.

For his part, the employer said, “It is unfortunate that his employees chose to take measures that would affect the bereaved families we support.”

The cooperative added that “while its collective agreement has expired for more than a year, the cooperative trusts the negotiating committee in order to achieve a win-win result quickly and reduce interruptions in the provision of its services,” noting that it will not be. No further comment.

Nearly 110 employees of the cooperative, at the end of June, voted 98% in favor of Bank for the five-day strike.
