Just over a year after the launch of the “A Sign in Space” project, launched by Search for Extra-terrestrial-SETI and designed by artist Daniela De Paulis (herself a SETI resident), a father and daughter were able to decode the message on June 7, 2024. .
encrypted message
American Institute Searching for extraterrestrials, SETI Launched the “Log into Space” project. “And the goal was”To explore, understand and explain the origin and nature of life in the universe“The question was whether we would be able to decode a message from space.
This is why the artist was named Daniela De Paulis. In fact, on May 24, 2023, she had to design an encrypted message sent by the European Space Agency (ESA) to Earth, simulating a signal that could be sent by an advanced extraterrestrial civilization. The message was then sent to four observatories around the world, before being posted on a server to allow anyone who wanted to attempt the challenge.
Internet users can share their opinions about code translation.
Finally, after one year, the message we designed for A Sign in Space was decoded! #signinspace @asigninspace https://t.co/xmH3EsCMRT

The exploration isn't over yet
Only one year later, the message was decrypted. A father and daughter, who introduced themselves under the aliases John and Sarah, accepted the challenge. They were able to decipher 65,696 signs made up of zeros, which were the ones the artist imagined.
To do this, the duo used a mathematical model called a cellular automaton.
This technology, of course, allowed them to read the message, but not to understand it.
What was the message?
It was just a picture. A representation of the five amino acids, the building blocks of proteins, which play a crucial role in the metabolism of the cells of all living organisms.
We must now understand this. Currently, many netizens have taken over. They began to identify the amino acids shown in the picture in order to understand the deeper meaning of the message.
