Many people waited more than an hour before they could pass through the doors of the 44,500-square-meter (six football fields) warehouse, CNN reported.
Many photos circulated on social media showed a large crowd of people gathering in front of the store.
“I didn't expect there to be so many people,” said Kim Lin, who was one of the first to enter the doors of the supermarket.
“I think Costco is special because they import brands you can't find anywhere else,” adds another customer, Olin Wang.
A similar situation occurred when the first Costco store in China opened in Shanghai in 2019.
The latter was forced to close its doors early on the first day due to the chaos prevailing there.
This is the sixth outlet to be opened in the country, but the first in the south of the country, in the city of Shenzhen, which has a population of more than 17 million people and is often called China's “Silicon Valley”.
