A small futuristic space overlooking the Sacré-Cœur

A small futuristic space overlooking the Sacré-Cœur

In the heart of the nineteenth centuryH The Paris District, in a building dating back to the 1930s, is a small space of 42 square meters with a stunning view of the Jardin d'Eul and the Basilica of the Sacre Coeur in the distance. This renovation project radically reinvents the space by removing all partitions to create an open, flexible atmosphere. “The idea was to find a radical gesture on a small surface.”“, explains architect Yiannis Fremont Marinopoulos, co-founder of the Parages agency based inH the town. The innovative design revolves around a technical cube that combines the kitchen, bathroom and dressing room. Covered in bluish mirrors, this central core captures the reflections of the outside scenery. “We sit on the sofa and see the reflection of the Sacred Heart.”Determine the architect.

The bathroom, designed as a compact gem, features walls painted in a neutral grey, while the floor, walls and ceiling are tiled in burgundy red. Without a door, the space remains airy and bright. “There is a feeling of an essence, a little gem within a gem.”“, explains Yannis Fremont Marinopoulos.

“We tested many materials…wood and tile,” says Yiannis Fremont Marinopoulos. In the end, it was the client who suggested the mirror. » This boldness gave this small space a unique and futuristic feel. “The mirror magnifies and conceals, camouflaging everything we prefer not to see in the apartment – the storage, the electrical panel…”, he adds. Even the edge of the sliding partition that separates the bedroom from the rest of the apartment has been covered with mirror, thus blending in with the decor and reflecting the views outside. “The great thing for us was to find a real radical in the design and turn this small renovation into an amazing gem.”concludes the architect.

“It's an exercise that pushed us to our limits, because the smaller the surface, the more difficult it is to find spatial and architectural readability“, explains Yannis Fremont Marinopoulos. The idea of the cube was to return to the essence of pure and simple form. When you turn around the cube, you want to look at it, but it reflects the large landscape behind it and creates a dynamic interplay between inside and outside. » Regarding the raw aesthetic of this block, he specifies: “After doing some testing, we wanted something radical with sharp edges, in keeping with the owner's clean, minimalist aesthetic.” The apparent simplicity of the cube actually hides a very complex design. “Once we enter the apartment, we forget the technical aspect of design to appreciate the elegant space. »

Special attention was paid to the design of the sliding door that allows the space to be modified. “If we closed the bedroom completely, we would divide the space into three units – the living room, the bedroom and the bathroom area.”“, explains the architect. The goal was to maintain visual continuity around the central cube, to be able to rotate freely around this object. The solution? A cleverly designed sliding door for a person in his thirties, who does not need a permanently closed bedroom, but wants Being able to detach it when entertaining guests. “This was a result of the client's request for an open space, and our desire to preserve the spatial vision of the large cube.”identifies the co-founder of the Parages agency.
