An Air Canada plane, flying from Montreal to Lyon, France, was forced to make an emergency landing before reaching its destination due to a technical problem on Friday.
French media reported that after nearly three hours of flying, the plane that was flying over Newfoundland and Labrador was forced to return because the indicator went out.
The problem of maintaining cabin pressure required the plane to return to Montreal Airport. The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner continued its return flight at 10,000 feet, instead of the usual 30,000 for this type of flight.
“The crew requested priority landing strictly as a precaution, in accordance with our standard operating procedures, and the aircraft is being inspected by our aerospace engineering and maintenance professionals,” Air Canada said, according to CTV News. The plane remained in the air for just under five hours.
The 254 passengers on Air Canada Flight 876 boarded another flight Saturday to Lyon, with a stop in Paris. However, passengers were reportedly left to fend for themselves while waiting for the next flight, and some did not have a place to stay overnight, French media reported.
