Alcohol is allowed in Longueuil Gardens, subject to conditions.

The city of Longueuil has decided to move forward with its 2023 pilot project, allowing the consumption of alcoholic beverages in its parks as of Wednesday, but under certain conditions.

“After a successful pilot project last year, when alcohol consumption was allowed in three city parks, we wanted to extend the regulation to all Longueuil parks. We know that people like to gather in parks for activities such as picnics and friendly, family gatherings,” said Catherine Fournier, Mayor of Longueuil.

The city on Tuesday adopted an amendment to the bylaw on disturbance, peace and order to regulate the consumption of alcoholic beverages, accompanied by a meal and under certain conditions, in the area's parks.

“We call on residents to demonstrate good citizenship and decency, as well as to consume responsibly, in the places specified by the regulation, and to dispose of waste properly,” the city added in a press release.

The amendment to the regulation aims to allow, in all city parks, the consumption of alcoholic beverages accompanying a meal, with the exception of the Forest du Tremblay.

Alcoholic beverages may not be consumed in children's play areas, including water parks and games, as well as areas designated for sports activities, including stands, buildings, chalets, indoor areas, parking lots, school gardens and during an event organised by the City in the Parc de la Cité.
