When we think of a sport, we always think of the best players in that sport’s history.
In fact, every sport has its best player(s) of all time.
For example, in soccer, we think of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
In basketball, we think of Michael Jordan and LeBron James.
In football, we think of Tom Brady.
And in hockey, the most important sport of all, it is clearly Wayne Gretzky’s name that comes to mind.
Gretzky excelled as an ice hockey fanatic, breaking all possible NHL records throughout his 20-season career.
Gretzky scored 894 goals, 1,963 assists and 2,857 points in 1,487 games while wearing the colors of the Edmonton Oilers, Los Angeles Kings, St. Louis Blues and New York Rangers.
For the most part, the records Gretzky keeps are secure and should never be broken.
On the other hand, if there is one that has been talked about a lot for a few seasons now, and which can soon be beaten, it is the number of goals scored in his career.
894 goals is an impressive record that Washington Capitals legend Alexander Ovechkin could beat in the coming seasons.
Everyone believes that Ovi will succeed, but the main interested party still doubts that this is possible.
Alex Ovechkin gave an update on his training for next season, while also saying he still thinks catching Gretzky is impossible – even though he’ll give his best shot.

In fact, this week’s No. 8 Capitals said in an interview with tv match He still had doubts about breaking Gretzky’s goalscoring record.
“I can’t predict how long it will take. God knows). We’ll see if I feel good. In every interview I’ve done in the past two years, someone asks me about the record. Of course I’d like to beat it. I’ve already said it’s unrealistic. Well, what I still doubt that this is possible, but I will do everything in my power to achieve this record.Alexander Ovechkin
So we understand that Ovi is very humbled by this record, even if the entire hockey world, including the record holder, Wayne Gretzky, believes Ovechkin will surpass his famous 894 career goals.
To put it all into perspective, Ovechkin currently has 822 career goals.
Therefore, his 73 fell short of overtaking Gretzky.
With three seasons left on his contract with the Caps, Ovi will therefore have to score just over 24 goals per season in order to break the record.
It’s certainly more than possible for the Russian, especially considering he scored 42 goals in 73 games last season.
In short, Ovechkin takes this race for Gretzky’s record very seriously, but he doesn’t want to take anything for granted until it’s done.
It’s a big thing and he doesn’t want to have the mentality of a guy who’s guaranteed to break that record, even though Gretzky believes in him and wants him to break his own.
“Gretsky genuinely believes in me and expects me to break his record. I think all the fans want this to happen because it’s such a great story. Just being in the running is worth a lot.” Alexander Ovechkin
