Flash flood warnings were issued for parts of Texas on Sunday evening as torrential rain slowly moved through the area.
Heavy rain floods Dallas
The next day, Monday, August 22, up to 300 mm of rain was recorded near downtown Dallas at the airport. Fantastic amount for such a short period, only 24 hours!
Several roads were flooded and many cars were partially submerged. An easy-to-understand situation when you know that on the night from Sunday to Monday, up to 76 millimeters of rain fell in just one hour at Dulles Airport.
According to local media, some residents had to swim through the streets to reach their homes. All this in very humid weather conditions. Moisture is also one of the causes of these deposits, as well as the passage of a semi-constant front over the area. And it’s not over! Bad weather is expected to last through Tuesday in Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi.
Source: exceptional drought
Before the flood currently hitting the city, Dallas was in the grip of an exceptional drought. It recorded 67 consecutive days without measurable rain, the second longest streak in its history.
