TRIBUNE – A group of scientists have signed an article in an academic journal to alert the ideology of deconstruction, which seeks to replace the criterion of merit with a logic of identity, explains a professor of cellular and molecular biology at Purdue University.

Twenty-nine scientists of different nationalities, myself included, have stood up to oppose attacks on meritocracy in the sciences. In an article published in the peer-reviewed journal Journal of Controversial IdeasIn this book, we highlight the ideological attack on science that takes place behind the scenes at universities, scientific publishing houses, and funding institutes and agencies such as the National Institute of Health (NIH) and the US National Science Foundation (NSF).
The concept of meritocracy has become politically incorrect because it would perpetuate inequality, in particular by excluding social minorities (ethnic, sexual, gender, religious, etc.) from various sectors of society and especially from universities and scientific institutions.
