Ten days before the start of the women’s euro (July 6-31), the Belgian women’s team lost at home (1-0) to Austria on Sunday, where they face France on July 14 in their second group match. This is the Red Flames’ second defeat in a training match since conceding on June 16 (3-0) at the Continental Hosts, England. Ives Cherniels, who has been coaching since 2011, beat Northern Ireland (4-1) in Lear on Thursday. Maria Blatter scored the winning goal in the 65th minute for the Austrians in the Euro group at the Euros in Lears on Sunday afternoon. Belgium will play their last friendly match against Luxembourg on Tuesday before the Euros, this time not qualifying for the tournament. For their part, the Americans won quietly against Colombia (3-0). In the second half Vladko Antonovsky’s players showed excellent play. Sofia Smith scored twice in the space of a few minutes to seal the fate of this encounter with Taylor Kourniak scoring the third goal at the end of the game.
